In 1998, Bill and Doris Emmett welcomed the Kickapoo Nation back home to their Grand Village near LeRoy, Illinois for the first time since 1832. Bill and Misty Vermaat now own the park where we host an annual powwow the first weekend of June.
We welcome everyone to join us at the Grand Village of the Kickapoo Park where the buffalo, native crops, plants and grasses are being restored
Mission Statement of
the Grand Village of the Kickapoo Park Foundation
Our mission is to:
Preserve and protect the site of the Grand Village and fort as a tribute to the Kickapoo Tribe who occupied this land from 1700's until 1832.
Develop and maintain the Grand Village of the Kickapoo Park.
Restore portions of the site to the previous state of ecological diversity that was present when the Kickapoo occupied the site.
Develop educational programs, which will include presentations about the Park and the people who lived there.
